Access Control Systems

Access control for every door, gate and car park

DHAS designs, supplies, installs and maintains access control systems in Lebanon, both wired and wireless: from a basic system for a small office to large complexes with thousands of doors, gates and barriers. Our history with card access systems goes back to 1973.

Today we connect access control with CCTV and intrusion detection, fire detection and parking management, so that a building’s security is run as one system. Every project starts with a visit to the site and a simple question: who needs to go where, and when?

Access Control

Readers and credentials

We install the full range of identification technologies, and often combine several on the same site:

  • Smart card and proximity readers — contactless, fast and convenient for staff and residents.
  • HID readers — reliable, widely used readers for secure access control.
  • Biometric fingerprint recognition — access is granted to a person, not to a card that can be lent or lost.
  • Eye iris recognition — an additional layer of security for the most sensitive areas.
  • UHF long-range readers — identify vehicles from a distance at car park and site entrances.
  • Offline access control — doors stay secure and usable even during network outages.

Manufacturers we work with include Siemens, HID, TagMaster, Turnstar and ECOS.

Turnstiles, doors, gates and barriers

A reader is only as good as the entrance it controls, so DHAS also supplies and installs the physical side: security turnstiles for lobbies and staff entrances, automatic doors, gates and arm barriers. For UNDP Lebanon, DHAS supplied the security turnstiles between December 2017 and February 2018.

For vehicles, UHF long-range tags or licence plate recognition cameras configured for Lebanese plates, old and new, open the barrier without the driver having to stop.

Electronic key management

Keys to plant rooms, vehicles, offices and guest rooms are often the weakest link in a building’s security. Electronic key cabinets release each key only to authorised people and record who took it and when.

At the Four Seasons Hotel Beirut, DHAS installed an ECOS electronic key management system with 480 key slots; the hotel confirms that the system works as needed and that the return on investment was achieved as planned. At Waterfront City, DHAS delivered the key management system of the Business Park.

One platform for security and safety

Access control is most effective when it works with the other systems in the building. DHAS integrates access control with CCTV, so every door event can be checked against video, and with intrusion detection and fire detection.

Siemens Cerberus DMS (Danger Management Station) brings fire safety, access control, intrusion detection and video surveillance into one platform, so operators can respond to events quickly with all the information in front of them.

The same readers can also run time attendance for staff, visitor management for guests, and guard tour systems that confirm security patrols happen on schedule.

Selected access control projects

  • Nokia Solutions and Networks, Downtown Beirut — CCTV and access control installed in 2009, maintained and upgraded by DHAS since. Nokia describes DHAS as “recognized as pioneer, highly professional & reliable in this industry”.
  • Waterfront City, Dbayeh — an integrated fire detection, CCTV and access control system, plus the key management system of the Business Park.
  • UNDP Lebanon — security turnstiles, delivered in accordance with the contract documents and within the stipulated time.
  • Four Seasons Hotel Beirut — ECOS electronic key management with 480 key slots.

How we work

  1. Consulting and site survey — our consultants study the site with you, explain the options and give demos where needed (consulting).
  2. Design — readers, controllers, cabling and software sized to your number of doors, users and entrances, with room to grow.
  3. Supply and installation — by DHAS technicians, with neat installation and on-site fine tuning (installation).
  4. Commissioning and handover — programming, testing, and training for the people who will use the system.
  5. Maintenance — maintenance contracts with scheduled visits keep the system at its best, extend its life and reduce false alarms (maintenance programs).

Frequently asked questions

Which access control system is right for my building?

It depends on the number of doors and users, the level of security each area needs, and whether vehicles must be controlled too. We start with a site survey and recommend readers, credentials and controllers that fit today and can grow with you.

Cards, fingerprint or iris: which should we use?

Cards and proximity tags are fast and convenient for large numbers of people. Fingerprint and iris recognition confirm the person rather than the card, so they suit server rooms, cash areas and other sensitive spaces. Many sites combine them: cards at the main entrance, biometrics on critical doors.

Does the system keep working if the network goes down?

Yes, when it is designed for it. Offline access control solutions keep doors secure and usable during network outages.

Can access control work with our CCTV and fire alarm?

Yes. We integrate access control with CCTV, intrusion detection and fire detection, and Siemens Cerberus DMS can bring them together in a single management station.

Can you also control the car park entrance?

Yes. UHF long-range readers and licence plate recognition identify vehicles and open barriers automatically; see also our parking management solutions.

Do you maintain the system after installation?

Yes. DHAS offers maintenance contracts with scheduled visits. Nokia’s system in Downtown Beirut, for example, has been maintained and upgraded by DHAS since 2009.
